Brisa’s Experience in the Flooding of Minatitlán

The intense rainfall that affected the state of Veracruz in recent days caused severe damages in many of the municipalities located in the south of the state. Coatzacoalcos was one of the most affected areas with flooded streets and overflowing of rain channels but it was nothing compared with the damages at Minatitlán.

The flood in Minatitlán, a neighboring municipality, swept away many of the commercial premises displayed along the seafront avenue, and the stagnation of water covered almost one quarter of the city with a height of 2 meters. Several rural communities were totally devastated by the flooding and inhabitants had to be rescued by boat.

 Unfortunately, this catastrophe affected the house of one of our collaborators at the Brisa Hotel, Humberto Pérez; the Brisa Experience was launched in order to help the recovery of the home of our workmate; many volunteers did their bit to help Humberto bringing his home to the same conditions that it had before the flood.

Experiencia Brisa en inundación de Minatitlán

En los pasados días las intensas lluvias que azotaron el estado de Veracruz, causaron enormes daños en muchos municipios de esta zona sur del estado. Si bien Coatzacoalcos tuvo afectaciones debido a problemas como inundaciones de calles y avenidas, o desbordamiento de canales pluviales, la ciudad no sufrió nada en comparación con lo que ocurrió con Minatitlán.

En el municipio vecino de Minatitlán, la lluvia arrasó con muchos locales aledaños al malecón costero y el estancamiento de agua, que en algunos casos alcanzó los 2mts de altura, llegó a casi una cuarta parte de la ciudad. Hubo varias comunidades rurales que fueron arrasadas por las inundaciones, en las que sus habitantes tuvieron que ser rescatados mediante lanchas para poder sobrevivir.

Desafortunadamente en esta catástrofe, uno de nuestros compañeros del Hotel Brisa (Humberto Pérez), tuvo muchas afectaciones en su casa, por lo que se puso en marcha la Experiencia Brisa para apoyar a nuestro compañero en la recuperación de su hogar. Hubo muchos voluntarios que participaron en la tarea y que pudieron poner su granito de arena para que Humberto pudiera volver a tener su casa como estaba antes de las inundaciones.
