Why does Database matters?

By Lucia Zazueta

For some people, talking about database might be boring. For business people, IT SHOULDN’T, and I’ll tell you why. Let’s start by defining database in a simple way; it’s a chart or table where you have certain data of people (certain meaning things you care about those people). Got it? Cool.
So why should you actually care about building a database? Why should it matter to your business to know who your clients are? I’ll be brief and imagine this as a flowchart:

If you know your customers…

You know their names.
(People like to be called by their name always)

You know what they like.
(“Do you want your small latte with one Splenda today?”
They are buying in your store, aren’t them?)

You know how often they buy.
(“Have a great day John! See you next week”)

You know if they have referred you some new clients.
(“My friend Laura told me you have some spectacular cupcakes”)

BIG QUESTION: Do you have all of this data in a file to make it useful and nurture your relationship with them? I’ll give you 2 seconds to think about it.
We might have also other cases: What if your business is not a store or a restaurant? What if you have a lot of sales people around the city or country with different hour turns? What If you actually sale online? Don’t panic. Having a database for you is also very important and useful. You have to start building it, collect your clients’ data, BUT data that matters; data that will help YOU send THEM relevant and personalized information; information that will make THEM feel LOVED by YOUR BRAND; love that will turn into LOYALTY if you keep accomplishing your brand’s promise.
Do you see now how the correct usage of data can be rewarded for you as LOYAL CLIENTS?
