Do it yourself – Digital Marketing Strategy

As a young adult, I perceive our life style to be the “Do It Yourself” generation. We can find huge furniture stores that offer great prices because they sell you everything in a box, all you need to do is assemble the pieces, but an important part in the box are the instructions and if you don’t follow them correctly you can end up with a three legged chair.

In digital marketing we encourage small and medium companies to try strategies like the big corporations; digital media is so flexible that it allows you to perform like the big leagues. With Smart Emails, you have powerful tools at hand, which in the past were just available to the big corporations. Just don’t forget some very important rules:

1) Define your customer:
On a daily basis you handle your customers, it is a very interesting experience to really define them, in this process, you are going to be able to see in paper your customers’ profile. Based on your daily interaction you need to fill a questionnaire with age, sex, economic information, academic, demographic, internet use, etc.

2) Chose your target:
Next, you need to select your target. With email communications, you are able to be more flexible about your target, and in our case, Smart Emails triggers are the perfect way to create different tones, and call to actions based on your targets.

3) Take care of your image:
If you are going to perform like the big ones, you need to look like the big ones. And again, in emails communications is not a complex matter. For this, Smart Emails offers professional looking templates that allow you to have a good start. We also recommend you to have your logos and images in general with excellent resolution. Remember good resolution does not mean heavy, because that could impact the communication performance.

4) Create a Plan:
This is a key part for any communication. You need to be prepared for your customer’s response, if you send a promotion, be careful to be able fulfill your customer’s expectations. Define the duration, the procedures, the responses, and most importantly what will you do in unexpected situations. Don’t forget to define times, amounts, or any other important information.

5) Define Objectives:
You need to create your own expectations about your communication. If you are sending a “keep in touch” communication, your objectives are not directly related to sales, but they are related to create presence, and with Smart Emails you are going to be able to know your customers reaction to your communication, so don’t be shy and define optimistic but real objectives.

6) Create your content:
This is another key factor, your content needs to be clear, and drive your readers to a certain call to action. So use simple language, be clear in your concepts, be neat in your spelling, and also be fun to read.

7) Measure:
One of the beauties of the digital world is that you can measure almost everything, take advantage of this, do pilots, learn, tweak your online experience and try it again. Measure everything, Open rates, most popular links, CTRs, redemptions, and so on

8) Learn and know your customer:
You did it!, now you have experience, your customers feedback , metrics, and results. With all this you can learn a lot about your customers, and treat them not like a “segment”, more like a unique individual, trust me they’ll love it.
